Theatre vs. America prefering television and movies

For decades people around the globe have been part of live theater- they have been introduced to the magic of stage performance, to the unique characters in a play who interpret any script into an act of movement- an act of reality. But why the public transitions itself from witnessing sole theatrical performances to simply viewing television shows in the comfort of their own home lounges or going to the movies at a preferable time and location? Why people are starting to abandon the most beautiful art of all arts? Isn’t theater important to anyone in today’s society? Why theater is not the same respectable place as it was before? Are now television and films considered theater?
The picture shown here doesn't only show the happy/sad theatrical faces (which are becoming an unfamiliar spectrum when shown to the younger audience), but represents the importance of theatre in today's society. Just like Hollywood became the metaphor for the movies industry, the masks are the metaphor for theatrical performances. Simply by looking at the picture, most people won't stand on their feet and begin arguing about it. My motives for chosing this picture are plain and simple-to persuade the typical American that going to the theater is not “old school”, but a manifestation of art and true beauty.
Going back to the stated questions, I am hoping to find out why Americans today are not going to see plays and don't pay attention to this aesthetic medium and remind them that "Theatre is art; film is a business; television is a furniture."
By knowing about the importance of theatre, people will get a sense of a larger world and appreciate beauty, like it was back in ancient times.
