Detained as a child

This photograph shows a little immigrant girl locked up in a prison. The little girl is hopelessly looking out of her cell with her arms folded around the cell bars.  The cell is built of cement and hanging from the ceiling are clothes. The antique effect of the picture gives you the sense of loneliness and sadness.

This picture implies that children, who are normally too young and innocent to go to jail, are being placed in detention center. The conditions of the jail cell displayed in the photograph

This picture helps support my argument against poor conditions of detention centers because it appeals to parents with young children.  This picture allows parents to open their minds so that they can understand the effects that poorly managed centers have on families.

People think that illegal immigrants are grown adults and do not understand that they can also be children. It seems like society is un-phased with that fact that adult immigrant are being held in bad conditioned cells, but how does society feel about kids in this situation. Believe it or not, there are 7,211 cases of children that have entered in the United States illegally by themselves.

Can you imagine your child in a detention center with no way of getting in contact with you?  The fear of losing you child and never knowing when you will see them again can bring a great amount of depression and stress to your life. No one wants their child trapped behind bars with fading hope of freedom and a new life.

illegal immigration.

Illegal immigration has been a issue for years in the United States. This picture shows a guy climbing the fence that was built on the border of Mexico and the United States. He's the only one brave enough to come close to the fence and actually climb it in hopes of making it to the other side. It's illegal to cross the border, and he obviously knows there is a better life that awaits him on the other side of the fence. He doesn't seem to have any fear climbing the fence knowing he's breaking the law and could face major consequences. Below him you can see a dog; he doesn't have any belongings with him. Obviously he's looking for a new start, a new life. He has brought nothing with him, even leaving the dog behind. His only goal is to get across the border and begin his new adventure. Crazy fact about this picture is that two executives who were trying to stop immigrants from crossing the border, hired illegal immigrants to build the actual fence. One of the main reasons we have so many immigrants is because there are many illegal jobs and companies who are willing to hire undocumented workers. Companies also know that immigrants are willing to work for low wages, saving them more money and putting the immigrants out to do hard Jobs that many Americans wouldn't do. The government is making illegal immigration such a big deal, but one of the main problem is companies who are hiring undocumented workers.

The picture above comes from a book written to portray the "roidactive and accurate predictors of steroid use in baseball". The book cover portrays the Major League Baseball logo, with a few extra exaggerations added in. One of the most obvious exaggerations is the added in hypodermic needle instead of a standard baseball bat. Also as the reader can take the "BIG" from the book cover title to be a predictor of how steroids are used to amp up players strength, speed, and overall endurance. The title also portrays a snapshot about how players that use steroids are truly in a league of their own. The specific players have the upper hand in the game due to the fact of the extras that have been used to help the player himself become a morphed player. I believe that this picture comes into play in many instances in the sports world because male and female athletes are striving to become better and better. While not all athletes chose to take part in "shooting up", our sports society has evolved into one that even the trainers are told by coaches to give the steroids, which are in capsule size, to the athletes and act like they are simple vitamins. Since steroids have become very popular, this picture truly can relate to the epidemic that is happening today. Since I myself am a young athlete, I can honestly say that I have already seen first hand accounts of fellow athletes using steroids to have a better overall performance. With this being said, steroids have become a widespread concern in the media and news due to abuse.

The Starving Actor

The above picture presents the fairly straightforward image of a struggling actor holding a sign that reads, “Will Audition For Food”. From the starving actor’s expression one gets a sense of his growing discontentment with his condition and a hint of his desperation for any acting job. He is presumably located in some side alley off of a main road, where he may or may not live in squalor. Also the use of black and white, instead of color, gives the image a more hard-edged nature ensuring that the direness of this actor’s condition is a serious matter.

Admittedly, the clearness of this photo’s argument lies in the words of the sign since they inform the viewer that this actor has reached a point where he is willing to audition for any role if some food is guaranteed for his efforts. The argument is that there are not enough acting jobs available to support many of those pursuing an acting career, including those as dedicated as this particular man. While the obvious solution to this actor’s condition is for him to pursue another career, one must wonder why acting jobs are so hard to find. Simply put, this photo implies that there is not enough work for actors.

In the overall scheme of my topic, discussing the role of 3D technology in the future of cinema, the future of acting is a critical issue. My argument is that 3D technology, as “cool” and visually stimulating as it may be, should never become the most important determinant in a film’s production. One reason for this is that 3D movies often limit the role of actors and make truly inspired acting unnecessary since the 3D magic can cover up flawed acting with relative ease. Moreover, 3D technology and other animation techniques may eventually lead to the elimination of many acting roles as moviegoers adjust to the idea of watching a completely digital character on the screen. With even fewer acting roles available, the pictured actor’s condition seems to be in the cards for a greater number of actors and actresses.

Overall this image does a decent job of creating pathos by projecting the hardship of the starving actor to the viewer. The man’s stony features display a deeply felt disillusionment with his own circumstances that make it possible for the viewers to feel some empathy and compassion for the hungry actor. Moreover, the photographer’s choice of black and white lends itself towards the creation of pathos in its coldness, which is no stranger to the struggling actors who faces rejection every time they audition for the small number of available movie roles. The viewer is left to wonder where the actor fits into cinema’s future.

A Misunderstood Art Form

This is artist Roberto Stuart. In this photograph on his album cover you see a man darkened out to the point that you cannot see his face or any of his features for that matter. Then you see on the other side of the photo is Modern Gospel in big white letters. To me this shows how Jazz music has been looked at in its early years as a dark and evil genre of music. Especially in the way he has this big bright area of light behind him and still and yet the light does not shine on any of his features.

At the same time the picture is showing how much Jazz has influenced Gospel music. It has influenced it so much that it has become a major part of Modern Gospel. Even though Jazz was so “dark and evil” it is showing how you can in doubtingly see the Jazz in the Modern Gospel music. This picture supports Jazz influencing Gospel that I might be able to use for my topic. The lighting of the picture helps you feel the spirit and the darkness shows you the mystery and misunderstanding of Jazz music as a whole.

Dog Fighting

A recently forced participant in illegal dog fighting, this puppy has suffered extensively at the hands of his cruel owners. His face was literally ripped off as his opponent's teeth bit and held on to his jowls and other excess skin. Is the price of our entertainment really so high as to condone such brutality?
This picture shows the disgusting truth behind dog fighting and those who participate in the activity. Anyone who can cheer on such a clear act of violence is not someone who we should want around our families; after all, how defined is the line between brutalizing an animal and a human being?
This is a clear argument against animal abuse because the pain in the puppies eyes is easily read. His injures are impossible to deny and his suffering is palpable. The image evokes feels of anger and sadness, not only for the poor animals undeniable suffering but also for what such an image says about todays society.

Going in on marching

This photograph contains a playing field placed right in the middle of a marching band and a football team both at practice. On the marching band side you kids hard at work playing their instruments trying to get their field show together. Similarly on the athletic football side, you kids playing their field positions trying to get their play together. Some people may ask why such a image is set up in such a way.
The argument that this photo appears to be showing is a comparison of marching band versus football. The purpose of this picture appears to show people that marching band is a sport just as football is because they both meet on the same field. The field represents the levels of properties that make a sport a sport. These properties includes skillful, yet physical activity and competition.
My argument from this photograph addresses the fact that band is a sport although many people say it is not a sport. A lot of people make this statement because they often do not take the time to see what goes on behind the scene to make a show. All they see is the tooting of horns during half of a halftime. However marching band takes just as much time, strength, and competitiveness as sports like football. The fact that both pictures are placed the same way against the field portrays the idea that both activities are equal to one another in terms of physical activity and competitiveness.
At first glance the picture may not directly create any emotions but as time passes by the picture begins to make a person wonder. Its makes them wonder what does football have to do with marching band. Moreover for some particularly athletes or fans of athletes the picture may create a sense of anger because something as “geeky” as band is being placed on the same level as a sport such as football. In summary the picture portrays somewhat mixed feelings.
